Arabian Nights Look: Part Deux

This was my first attempt at Arabic eye make-up. I had originally done this for Spankedelic's contest, but ended up doing a brighter look for the contest instead (click here to check out the contest entry). Enjoy!

Arabian Nights Look

Here’s a look that I did for Spankedelic’s 1 year anniversary/Arabic inspired make-up contest. I had done another look originally, which I’ll post later today but I wanted to go brighter & more colourful for the contest. She also added a question. If you answer that, you will be qualified to win even if you don't do an Arabic inspired look. Click here for more information about that. Here’s my answer to the question:

Why did you join blogger & why does
make-up/beauty appeal to you?

I first came across Blogger when I was browsing through make-up videos on YouTube & I’ve been reading blogs since then (mainly beauty related ones). I joined blogger to express my views & share interesting information that I have found while browsing online. I recently started getting into eyeshadows (around November last year) & I thought it would be a good way to track my progress on eyeshadow application & have a collection of different looks that I have tried all in one place. Another reason why I joined blogger is because I want to start a blog on tourist spots in my area, reviews, & things to do, so this is sort of a practice blog till I get the hang of blogging. Also, I saw all the great contests going on & of course I HAD to participate, so I thought I might as well start up a blog.

Make-up/beauty appeals to me because of the way it can transform a person & make them look way hotter than they were before (if it's done right that is)! Once a girl knows that she looks good, the confidence just comes from within. I also apply henna & I think that anything make-up/beauty related (whether it's make-up or henna) helps me express my creativity through my work, which is why I love it!

Hope you like the look.

Watch & be amazed!

I was watching this video a few minutes ago. It's def worth watching! Btw, before you watch the video you might want to pause the bear on the right (in the sidebar). Here's what the description says on YouTube:
Fantastic video on the progression of information technology, researched by Karl Fisch, Scott McLeod, and Jeff Bronman

Woohoo for India with so many brainiacs! & how much is human intelligence going to be worth 50 years from now? There's something for you to think about.

*Takes a Bow*

A big thanks to everyone who voted for me when I was chosen to be one of the nine finalists in Jaimie's "I'm Gaga for Gaga Contest." The competition was fierce to say the least. The poll was closed today & CaitlynRenee is the winner, so congrats to her! But Jaimie has decided that she's giving out a runner up prize as well. Thanks Jaimie! You really shouldn't have taken the trouble.. you're too kind. I'm just really happy that so many people supported me.. that can be my prize, haha.

Seriously though, I would like to clear the air a bit.

Since I've just been blogging for a week or so, I have been promoting my blog. & after I posted my contest entry I promoted it even more. All my friends knew about this contest & they asked people that they knew to vote for me as well. It's my first week blogging & my first time as a finalist, so maybe I got a bit too excited. It's a public poll on a public blog though, so that shouldn't be a problem. & spreading the word is so easy now with all the technologies around (like Drew Barrymore mentions in He's Just Not That Into You: getting rejected by 7 different technologies can be exhausting. Of course I had to add that in there, but continuing with what I was saying...). Voting online doesn't take that much effort at all, so anyone can see why someone who promotes something a lot will end up with a lot of votes, right? That's all I'm going to say about this. Although, it makes me wonder how hard politicians have to campaign. This was hard enough!

Thanks once again to everyone who voted for me. Without your help I wouldn't have come this far (& by that I mean really far). Jaimie, thanks for having this great contest & offering me a prize.

Bare Escentuals: Free Love

At times I wish I lived across the border. Just for the shopping & offers though. I hate paying for shipping, especially when the actual product is free. Pisses me off so much! If I lived in the States, I would just go to the store & pick it up!

I'm mentioning the whole thing bout paying shipping & living in the US because I just came across the Bare Escentuals Peace and Love Samples. [<-- Click me to get your freebies]

The free sample includes:
  • A small sized bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation in one of the following shades: fairly light, light, medium beige, medium tan, medium dark, golden dark
  • Premi Buki Brush
  • & a BONUS: Rare Moisturizer Sample Packette (you'll see it when you're at the makeup bag/check out)
There's a limit of 1 per customer & shipping is only $3.95. Sorry if this is old news. I haven't been browsing much online lately since I've been busy with school. Hope some of you can take advantage of this offer.

I fell in love with the bareMinerals foundation after I tried it at my friends place in the Medium Beige shade (it was her sisters), so when I went to the States last summer I knew I HAD to get it for myself. Guess what shade I ended up getting though? Medium Tan!! I knew Medium Beige was the perfect shade for me, but I thought I'd listen to the makeup consultant there & purchase what she recommended instead since she's a consultant & what not. I was double-minded then & being the indecisive person that I am, I got the one that she chose for me. Keep in mind that it was summer back then & after spending a few days in VA I had tanned even more.

Anyway, it's a bit dark for me, so I've only used it two or three times since last August! So sad considering I don't really spend much on cover-up/foundation cause I don't really need it & the one time I decide to splurge a bit, I end up with something that I can't wear. Do you feel my pain? Guess I'll just have to wait till July or August when I get that dark again. Maybe I'll do a review on it then too. It's been so long that I don't remember much, but I remember loving the coverage & not feeling like I have anything on my face.

Enough with the chitter chatter. Go get your free sample now!

P.S. Wow, I've got 129 votes on the "I'm Gaga for Gaga Contest" Finalists' poll so far. Shocking, yet exciting! Thanks for all the support & votes everyone. If you haven't voted yet, please do so. The poll closes in about a day. I'm in first place at the moment, but it's really close. Help me win my first big prize (cause even though the free hot chocolate from Tim Horton's was good, this is MUCH better!!)

Little Fishies Feast on Human Flesh!

I heard about this a while ago & I thought I'd share it with everyone, since many people don't know that fish spas exist. That's right. Fish spa!

A girl soaks in the hot spring enjoying the "fish spa" in Huizhou, south China's Guangdong Province.
Someone tell me how she's so relaxed! (Picture from the Sampuoton Spa in Malaysia)

Here are a few facts based on information from various sources:
  • The first fish spa resort was opened in Japan in 2006 and was used to clean bathers at the spa.
  • The special fishies nibble away only on your dead skin cells. Your healthy skin is left alone to grow, since it's harder to nibble on. Human skin is an attractive and easy food source for these fish when the water softens up the skin.
  • The fishies do not have teeth, which means you feel no pain. The only thing felt is a tingly sensation, which makes some people squeal with laughter.
  • They live in high temperatures, so you don't have to worry about being in cold water to receive this treatment.
  • The Garra Rufa fishes are found in Northern and Central Middle East (mainly in Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Iraq). This breed is legally protected from commercial exploitation in Turkey due to concerns of overharvesting for export. The fishes are also artificially bred in outdoor pools specifically for the spas.
  • Doctor fish and nibble fish are a few nicknames that these fishes have been given.
  • While the treatment of nibbling, the fish exude an enzyme called dithranol (anthralin) which prevents fast developments of cells from the skin, therefore preventing skin problems. This is why the fishes are used to treat skin diseases, such as eczema and psoriasis.
  • Fish spas have been a growing trend in countries like Japan, China, Turkey and across Europe.

A video of the Dr. Fish Pedicure place in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. It's a little pedi place, not a big spa resort. I like the close up of the fish shown in the video. There are a lot of other videos on YouTube. Check 'em out!

I love how the man feels the need to say "but I don't, I don't get pedicures on a regular basis." Haha!

I think it's a bit bizarre. In the U.S. some states have banned these fish spas, but Virginia has two of them. I go to visit family friends in VA once every one or two years, so I might just have to give it a try even though I don't like fish, let alone step into a whole pool or tank filled with them.. eek!

A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words: #1

There are some images that say so much without being too graphic. Here's one of them.

There's so much that I could say after looking at this pic. But each time I look at it, the intensity of those simple words stenciled on that parking space leave me speechless.

Psst, Mrs. Christina

I tried commenting on your latest post but it wouldn't let me. When I set up my blog I tried to have the comments open in the same post at the bottom, but for some reason that wouldn't work. I had to change the settings, so that the comments box opens in a pop-up window. Hope it works for you when you change the settings!

& a big thanks to everyone who is following my blog :)

Spotted: MAC Style Warrior Earrings

When I first saw the poster for MAC Style Warrior, the first thing that caught my eye were those earrings. I knew I had seen them somewhere before. Guess who wore them first?

Yup, none other than Rihanna! She wore them when she was on the cover for You Magazine back in November 2007.

Who do you think wears those earrings better?

Imitation is the Best Form of Flattery

This is a contest entry for Jaimie's "I'm Gaga for Gaga" contest. I did this look a few days ago when I first saw the contest (& I wasn't even a member yet)! I was going to re-do the look, but I just realized that the deadline is tomorrow & since I'm supposed to be doing some readings & working on an essay *sigh*, I'm just going to submit the look that I had done. So glad I took LOTS of pictures when I did this last time! You'll see what I mean by lots very shortly :) I had a lot of fun doing this look & as I went on, I kept making a few changes to add in a little bit of Saimese flavour ;) Enough talking, here are the pics...

St. Patrick's Day FOTD

Here was the FOTD (Face of the Day) for St. Patrick's Day. Since it was St. Patrick’s Day, of course there had to be a little pop of green. The look is good for someone who isn’t comfortable sporting a St. Patrick’s Day coloured green eyeshadow all over. It's wearable in the daytime as well. Another great thing is that only drugstore/catalog products have been used.

I'll also use this FOTD as a contest entry that Janet is having. You can find out more about this contest here. Contest ends on March 19th, so hurry! (This probably doesn't help much since it's my first day here, but if anyone comes across this, then check out Janet's contest).

Hope you like the look :)

Hi, I'm Saim

My name is pronounced like Siamese cats, hence the nickname Saimese.

I'm a 20 year old student who has a lot to share & I've always wanted to express my ideas through my very own blog, but wasn't sure how many people would actually read it. This time I finally got around to starting one up. Guess I'll just have to work hard to make sure people visit my blog (& perhaps re-visit if I get them hooked)! Hehe.

The blog might look girly, but don't be fooled by the appearance. I have comments & opinions on almost everything. I hope to update this blog with a wide variety of topics, so that no one's left out & there's something for everyone. Please remember that anything mentioned in this blog is my opinion & keep in mind that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Anything that I mention here about products is based on my personal use & experience & they should be used at your own discretion.

That's all for now :)
